BI-DISTRICT VOLLEYBALL GAME The volleyball bi-district playoff game against Nordhiem will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024 at 7:00 PM at the McMullen County ISD school gymnasium in Tilden, Texas. The entry fees will be $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. A fan bus will leave Utopia Schools at 4:30 PM on Monday, November 4, 2024 for anyone that is interested. The charge to ride the fan bus will be $5.00 per person. If not riding the fan bus with his or her parents each student will need a permission slip before getting on the bus. Utopia ISD will be running tests on the security system on the afternoon of Thursday, October 24, 2024. These are only tests and not actual emergencies.

2024 UTOPIA ISD TAX STATEMENTS & COLLECTIONS Beginning Tuesday, October 1, 2024, all Utopia ISD property taxes will be mailed processed and collected by the county in which the property resides. Bandera County will continue to process and collect Utopia ISD school property taxes for properties that reside in Bandera County. Medina, Real, and Uvalde Counties will process and collect all Utopia ISD school property taxes for properties that reside in each respective county. All payments for delinquent Utopia ISD property taxes or any Utopia ISD property taxes issued prior to October 1, 2024, must still be paid through the Bandera County Tax Assessor/Collectors office. This new process will help consolidate tax statements so that all Utopia ISD landowners’ property taxes will appear on one tax statement and all property taxes may be paid with one payment method at one location.

At this time the volleyball game scheduled for Friday 9/13/2024 has been cancelled. Notification will be sent if another team is found to fill in the schedule opening.

MAINTENANCE / GROUNDSKEEPER POSITION AVAILABLE Utopia ISD is accepting applications for maintenance and groundskeeping. This is a twelve-month position and will require 40 hours per week, typically 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. There is a possibility the position could work ten-hour days on a four-day work week. Duties will include, but not be limited to, maintaining all campus facilities including, but not limited to, basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, emptying trash cans, mowing, trimming grass and shrubbery, maintaining all school grounds, and assisting with maintaining school vehicles. A working knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and safety is essential. Starting pay is $15.00 per hour. There is also an opportunity to drive school bus routes for additional income. The test will include active shooter, fire, medical, and shelter in place scenarios. Tests will involve local law enforcement, fire, EMS, and school personnel. Tests will include announcements over the school’s public address system that may be heard for a distance from the school.

ATHLETICS PHYSICALS AND OTHER UPDATES Athletic physicals are scheduled for Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the Utopia Medical Clinic, 100 Brandon Street, Utopia, Texas 78884. The cost is $10. Please bring cash. Turn forms into Mrs. Patti Meyer in the school office. Currently, the plan is to have Utopia ISD sixth-grade students included in the junior high athletic period for the 2024-2025 school year. This is being done because, with the low numbers of students in the incoming seventh and eighth grade, there is a high probability that the sixth-grade students may be able participate in some or all of the junior high sports. UIL regulations state that sixth grade students in 1A and 2A schools may participate in junior high sports if there are not enough seventh and eighth grade students on the first day of practice to form two complete teams in a team sport. For Utopia the first junior high girls’ team sport is volleyball, and the first junior high boys’ team sport is basketball. This means that sixth grade girls may participate in junior high volleyball if there are less than twelve seventh and eighth grade girls that come out for volleyball on the first day of practice, which is the first day of school. It also means that sixth grade boys may participate in junior high basketball if there are less than ten seventh and eighth grade boys that come out for basketball on the first day of practice, which is October 15, 2024. Once the sixth-grade girls or boys meet the qualification to participate in a team sport they may then participate in all other sports for that gender for the rest of the school year, including individual sports like cross country, tennis, and track and field. If you are the parent/guardian of a sixth-grade student it would be best to have him or her get a physical and complete all of the athletic paperwork in case they are able to participate in any of the junior high sports.

POSITION AVAILABLE UTOPIA ISD ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT Utopia ISD is seeking to fill the position for Central Office Administrative Assistant. This position works twelve months per year including June and July. Administrative Assistant duties will include, but not be limited to, secretary for the superintendent/athletic director, contact for human resource, processing payroll, school board recording secretary, and other duties as assigned. Preferred qualifications: 1) proficiency with Google Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Forms; 2) proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point; 3) proficiency with Google Calendar; 4) organizational skills; 5) ability to adjust to changing priorities; 6) willingness to have a flexible work schedule; 7) ability to maintain a professional etiquette under pressure; 8) experience with accounting or finance is a plus; 9) high school diploma required; 10) college coursework preferred.
